Where MILA Began
Before MILA became a studio, it began with the details of my own wedding.
While planning our celebration, I decided to draw on my background in graphic design and visual arts to create the stationery and signage myself. I wanted each piece to feel like a personal response to the setting and season — a summer wedding by the harbour, with the paper details sitting naturally within the flowers, tablescape and surrounding environment.
I was fortunate to have a close friend create our florals, which meant we established the floral direction early. Daisies, sunflowers and seasonal summer flowers in soft whites, blues, purples and yellows became the starting point for both the colour palette and the botanical illustrations that would carry through the stationery.
What began as a deeply personal project for our own celebration became the starting point for the way I now approach wedding stationery through MILA — considering not just each piece on its own, but how it belongs within the celebration as a whole.
The Design
The stationery was designed to feel like a natural extension of the celebration itself — soft, personal and quietly detailed. A pale blue-grey palette became the foundation of the suite, paired with warm brown typography and delicate botanical illustrations drawn from the flowers and styling of the day.
The floral artwork became a recurring thread across the personalised menus and place cards, welcome sign and bar menu, shifting in scale and composition while keeping each piece connected. Fine typography and generous spacing kept the designs feeling light and contemporary, while small personalised details brought warmth and character to each place setting.
Rather than standing apart, the finished pieces were designed to sit comfortably amongst the flowers, natural linens, glassware and softer tones of the tablescape — becoming part of the celebration rather than simply stationery within it.
